Luxury Dream Hotels

In the booking industry, a new French company is born: Luxury Dream Hotel.

Even though she is presenting herself as a media platform for hospitality, she has all the characteristics of an OTA: the customer can book on the website and the hotel has to pay a commission.

So, what is making a difference with Luxury Dream Hotel???

The best advantage of this new born is the fact that the hotels referred are presented by video. More than 500 hotels (included the most beautiful in the world) have been recorded and at the charge of the company. The hotels would have the choice to use the high quality video for their own website or their communication.

How does it work for the hotel?

The room booked is paid directly to the hotel who pay back Luxury Dream hotel. The hotels don’t have to pay anything for the video, they just have to pay a commission of 15% when a room is booked and the cancellation policy is fixed by the hotel.
Even though, the website seems to be more “hotel friendly”, the customers will have access to the best rate and moreover to a special selection of high end hotel.

Also, the videos are not just video clips of a hotel, they are presenting the history of the hotel, a presentation of its architecture, services, an interview of the director…this is a real movie that permit to the customer to have an overview of the hotel and all the features before booking.

So, it is their real first contact with the hotel and the customer can also read the blog written by journalists with the new trends, interview of designers and chefs.

Good idea or not?

I believe that this is a good idea for hotels who don’t have any real designed portals and who wants to try their booking with a smaller OTA. But, in reality, I’m not sure that this company will really last. Indeed, more and more hotels understand the importance of having a real interacted portal and at our time, the video is not the one and best tool to reach the customer.

Hoteliers have to reach the customers through the social media (which doesn’t cost anything like you tube, facebook, pinterest, instagram…) and if you really think about it, the human ressources of an hotel are moving very fast, so having an interview of a director who is not here since a while and is now a director of a competitor is not really valuable.

Let’s say the customer watch the video and, once in the hotels, wants to speak to the director and realize that the one on the video was here 5 years ago, that would give the image that the video and the website are not updated. Besides, we could have expected to have a real tip giver blog, which is not really the case, the journalists are just promoting some hotels, beautiful of course, but it is not really interactive with customers.

Revolution in the hotel mobile app with Conrad Hotels& Resorts

Revolution in Hotels app with the Conrad Hotels & Resorts app from MBAG

Revolution in the hotel mobile app:

If many hotels are having a mobile app, for most of them, it consists in the possibility to book hotels and discover the different services of the hotels. So, the apps don’t have any influence on the rest of your stay.
This age is done with the new app just launched and realized by Hilton with its very luxury brand: Conrad Hotel & Resorts.

Now, you are able to pre-order your food for the room service before you are coming on your mobile so you will have you coffee or meal waiting for you! The innovation stands in the fact that you can book everything from your mobile before you check-in!
You can book a spa day or even program your wake-up call and request text confirmations or alerts.

This is a win-win change:

Indeed, for the guests: I can bet that the guests who are used to gain time with their mobile devices will appreciate to have all their preferences and desires ready before their arrivals. So, they will enjoy the traditional guests services but relying less on people; having less one-to-one contact and will not wait for instance to talk to a concierge or wait for a meal. No more wait while you craving for your tomato-buffala!

Moreover, the app also translates in 13 different languages so the guests will certainly appreciate to use it in his mother tongue. No more misunderstanding in your order! And why don’t you surprise your wife after the opera by having her strawberry-chocolate craving ready just after she mentioned it in the car!

And in the other hand, for the hotel: this is a real positive gain for the hotels: first of all, it will encourage the guests to order food so it will increase the revenue! And, it is working like a computer memorizing the preferences of the guests, so with that the hotel will be able to personalized the amenities of the very VIP guests making available in advance maybe their preference (let’s say for instance availability of a certain type of alcohol or only vegans…)
It will be easier to centralize all these information.

You can enjoy this app since November 2012 and for 21 of the 22 Conrad hotels in the world so why not getting your phone and asking through your Conrad concierge app for a very nice glass of champagne to relax after your journey!

Private space for very special guests...

How VIP guests can feel even more VIP? Some hotels find a solution with a very private space...

USA Today, on the 27th of September 2012, presented a new trend for high end hotels to make their guests fell even more special between their walls. The guests will extend the private experience outside of their room with exclusive-guests private lounge in the hotel.

This option has been chosen by The Capella Georgetown Boutique Hotel in Washington; the One Aldwyn Hotel in London; the Benjamin in Manhattan; the AKA Sutton Place in NYC, and the Hyatt 48 Lex in Manhattan.

We all known about club-lounges that offered complementary drinks and snacks for premium or upgraded rates but with this new concept the restriction will not be applying between the guests but between the guests and the public.

Obviously, the main reasons that pushed all these hotels into this service is the desire to make a real difference in the luxury hotels experience, in few words: to create this special plus!

Indeed,  according to  Howard Rombough, publicist of the hotel One Aldwyn, "Guests have hundreds of very good luxury hotels to choose from in London," "It was apparent — because our guests told us so — that a private lounge would be a big reason to keep them coming back."
And I can bet that having a complimentary neck, back and shoulder massage in a private lounge before relaxing on a cozy sofa while the host lounge booked my favorite restaurant might put more weight on the scale of my booking hotel decision!

WASHINGTON - The Capella Georgetown boutique hotel will reserve its rooftop lounge and pool for guests. This is a computer rendering.

So, all these efforts put together to create a private cosy bubble for the guests shows us how some hotels  give more value to quality over quantity: if opening a bar to the outsiders will bring more revenue on the moment, create loyalty among elite travelers is more profitable in the long term.

But, their challenge will be to protect their image with the public and community so they will not look arrogant or snooty and have bad comments!

On my side, this is what I call High End Services: be aware of the real needs and demand of the clients by offering quality and discretion.
